Whom should I expect to see at Coastal VIM?

You will receive care by experienced and qualified medical and nursing professionals. All volunteer medical and nursing professionals are screened to ensure that they have the appropriate credentials, licenses and continuing education necessary to practice safely.  Because the practitioners, nurses and other health professionals at Coastal VIM are volunteers, we cannot guarantee that you will be able to see the same provider each time you visit.

You will also see non-medical professionals assisting in the provision of services.

What will it cost to come to the clinic?

The clinic is free of charge.  We encourage voluntary donations in money and in kind to assist with medical and office supplies.  If you need a service that cannot be provided by Coastal VIM, we will assist you in finding the needed medical care.  Services outside Coastal VIM may not be provided free of charge.

What are the eligibility requirements?

Eligibility for service is based on 2023 Federal Poverty levels.   You are eligible if your annual family income is under 300% of that level and you have no health insurance.

1. Clients must show Proof of Residency in Ocean County, New Jersey. This may be shown by bills or rent receipts, driver’s license or a landlord’s letter verifying your residency.  A Post Office Box is not acceptable.

2. Proof of Total Household Annual Income – This includes paycheck stubs, social security and/or Federal Income Tax 1040 Form, disability and/or pension benefits, and/or unemployment benefits from all that contribute to the Total Household Annual Income.  For married individuals, the spouse’s income must be reported.

3. If you have insurance — you are not eligible.  If you are eligible for Medicaid, Medicare or if you are a Veteran, you should go to your designated provider.  Please remember that Coastal Volunteers in Medicine is a VOLUNTEER Clinic with limited resources.  All of our support comes from donations.  If you meet the eligibility guidelines, we will do all that we can to assist you with your healthcare concerns; if you do not meet our requirements, we will assist you with an appropriate referral.

Only clients who meet the income and residence requirements will receive a medical appointment.  In cases of acute illness, we will do our best to fit clients into our schedule as soon as possible, with the understanding that they will complete the eligibility process.

Will interpretation/translation for Spanish speakers be available?

Yes, trained bilingual staff and interpreters are part of our volunteer staff and will be available during clinic hours.
